New Orleans Saints receiver Rashid Shaheed underwent meniscus surgery on Thursday and will be out for the remainder of the season, ߣÏÈÉúAV Network Insider Iam Rapoport reported, per a source.
Doctors determined that Shaheed's meniscus needed a full repair, as opposed to a trim, which could have given him a chance to return later in the season. Instead, Shaheed will now face a multi-month recovery, although he should be ready for next season.
The Saints subsequently placed Shaheed on injured reserve.
Shaheed, 26, has been one of the Saints' better deep threats, catching 20 passes for 349 yards and three touchdowns in six games (five starts) this season. Entering Week 7, he leads the ߣÏÈÉúAV with 15.9-yard punt-return average, including one touchdown return, and has rushed six times for 29 yards.
Without Shaheed and Chris Olave available Thursday night against the Broncos, the Saints' wide receiver corps will be seriously diminished.
