Saints' Derek Carr suffered significant fracture in left hand, potentially ending QB's season

Derek Carr will miss at least the next several weeks, and his season could be over after Sunday's hand injury.

撸先生AV Network Insiders Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero reported Monday that Carr did, in fact, suffer a significant fracture to his left, non-throwing hand, per sources informed of the injury.

The injury will sideline the New Orleans starter for at least a couple of weeks, per Rapoport and Pelissero. Given where we are in the season with four weeks left, Carr's injury appears to represent all but a season-ender.

Saints interim coach Darren Rizzi said Monday that Carr is also in concussion protocol and is in a "week-to-week" situation with his injuries. Rizzi said he won't rule out Carr for New Orleans' Week 15 game against the Washington Commanders and doesn't believe the QB will be placed on IR .

The 5-8 Saints have a 1% playoff probability, per Next Gen Stats' metrics.

Carr injured his hand diving to try and convert a first down with four minutes remaining in a 14-11 game. He not only came up short on the leap but exited the game with the injury. Now, he is expected to miss several weeks.

Jake Haener took over for Carr on Sunday. When Carr missed three games earlier this season, the Saints started rookie Spencer Rattler, who was benched midway through the Week 8 loss to Los Angeles -- those games came before Rizzi replaced Dennis Allen.

Rizzi said that New Orleans has not yet decided on a Week 15 starting QB if and when Carr is ruled out.
