Having already made a change at quarterback this season, Las Vegas Raiders head coach Antonio Pierce has made an even larger alteration to his offense.
The Raiders have fired offensive coordinator Luke Getsy, ߣÏÈÉúAV Network Insider Tom Pelissero reported on Sunday night. The team subsequently announced the parting of ways along with the oustings of QB coach Rich Scangarello and offensive line coach James Cregg.
Pierce felt he needed to make a move after Sunday's 41-24 blowout loss to the Cincinnati Bengals dropped the team to 2-7 on the season, Pelissero added.
"It was time to make a change," Pierce told reporters on Monday, .
Though an interim OC or play-caller isn't yet known, Pelissero noted former Washington offensive coordinator Scott Turner, the current passing game coordinator, is a logical candidate.
Piece said on Monday that he will use the next couple of days to determine who will be interim OC, .
Las Vegas has its bye coming up and faces the Miami Dolphins on Nov. 17.
Earlier in the season, quarterback Gardner Minshew was benched as the starter in favor of Aidan O'Connell. O'Connell did little to improve the offense and suffered a thumb injury in Week 7, which ushered the return of Minshew to the starting lineup. Minshew, however, was benched again during Sunday's loss, this time in favor of Desmond Ridder.
As the Raiders are mired in a five-game losing streak, Getsy's offense is last in giveaways (19), rushing yards per game (76.9) and yards per carry (3.5). Las Vegas' paltry 280.2 yards per game are 29th in the league as the offense has registered 20 or fewer points in six of its nine games.
Minshew, a Pro Bowler for the first time with the Indianapolis Colts last season, is 28th in the ߣÏÈÉúAV with an 80.2 passer rating. O'Connell is worse at 76.0.
However, it's of note that Pierce's defense has hardly been a unit the Raiders can hang their hat on. They've allowed north of 30 points four times this season, allowing a season-high 41 on Sunday.
Sunday's news brings about the second firing for Getsy in the calendar year as he was dismissed in January as the Bears offensive coordinator.
Getsy clearly wasn't a fit in Vegas, but not much has been in 2024 for the Silver and Black.
