Cowboys QB Dak Prescott expected to miss multiple weeks after suffering hamstring injury vs. Falcons

A rough season for the Dallas Cowboys will get even worse.

Quarterback Dak Prescott is expected to miss multiple weeks due to the hamstring injury suffered in Sunday's loss to the Atlanta Falcons, 撸先生AV Network Insiders Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero reported on Monday, per sources informed of the situation.

Prescott underwent an MRI after suffering the hamstring injury in the second half of Dallas' 27-21 loss. The results were worse than initially feared. Pelissero added that the club hasn't decided whether to place Prescott on injured reserve, which would sideline him a minimum of four games.

Prescott will get a second medical opinion to confirm the treatment options.

Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy said Monday that the team is still evaluating Prescott's injury and wouldn't say if injured reserve was a possibility for the QB.

"Once the doctors and really once he figures out where he's at," McCarthy said, "those are conversations that'll probably happen here over the course of this week."

The signal-caller also dealt with a hand laceration on Sunday, but Rapoport previously reported that Prescott's hand was fine.

McCarthy confirmed to reporters that Prescott will not be available for Dallas' Week 10 tilt against the Philadelphia Eagles. Cooper Rush, who replaced Prescott on Sunday following the injury, will make the start. Dallas also has former first-rounder Trey Lance as an option.

Sunday's loss dropped the Cowboys to 3-5 on the season ahead of the Eagles game.

In a season already spiraling the drain, Dallas has lost three straight games for the first time since Weeks 6-9, 2020 (four games). It could get worse with each of the following three games versus teams three-plus games over .500: Week 10 vs. Philly (6-2), Week 11 vs. Houston (6-3), Week 12 at Washington (7-2).

Prescott is the latest big-name Cowboys player to go down this season. Demarcus Lawrence is on IR and Micah Parsons hasn't played since Week 4.

Absent its big-money QB for multiple weeks amid the most brutal stretch of the season, McCarthy's club's chances of turning things around in 2024 went from bad to worse.
