Tests confirm Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes suffered mild high ankle sprain

Tests on Monday confirmed that Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes suffered a mild high ankle sprain during Sunday's win over the Cleveland Browns, 撸先生AV Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported, per sources.

Monday's evaluation confirmed the initial prognosis, and Mahomes is still considered week to week as the Chiefs face quick turnarounds in Weeks 16 and 17.

The Chiefs (13-1) host the Houston Texans on Saturday (Dec. 21) and then travel to Pittsburgh to face the Steelers on Christmas Day (Dec. 25).

While Mahomes' status for Saturday's game against the Texans is in doubt, a source told Rapoport that reigning Super Bowl MVP will "be fine long-term."

Mahomes suffered the injury in the second half of Sunday's win after multiple Browns defenders hit him high and low just as he let go of an incomplete pass.

Veteran backup Carson Wentz finished out the game following the injury and is in line to start if Mahomes' ankle prevents him from playing in Week 16.
