Aaron Jones' mother said Vikings needed to bench him vs. Cardinals after recent fumble issues

A mother's scorn stings worse than any coach or social media blast ever could -- just ask Minnesota Vikings running back Aaron Jones.

Jones' mother, Vurgess Jones, told her son following Sunday's comeback win over Arizona that coaches were right to bench him after another fumble -- his third consecutive game with a flub.

"She said, 'They needed to sit you down,'" Jones said, via the Minneapolis Star Tribune. "She was like, 'I don't know what's going on, but they need to take him out the game. They need to bench him right now.' Anytime I hear from my mom, it's going to be worse."

"I was like, 'Ah, you know, I gotta learn from it,'" he added. "She's like, 'You didn't learn last week?'"

Classic mother line.

Jones noted that he needs to do a better job with his grip, which led to his most recent turnover.

After losing a fumble in the first quarter on Sunday -- his second of the game but first lost -- the Vikings sat down their starting running back for much of the rest of the half -- he played just two snaps deep into the second quarter. However, Jones made amends, capping off a comeback win with the go-ahead touchdown catch.

It's a week of mothers critiquing their son's play, with Lamar Jackson noting his momma "cussed" him out for not running more on Sunday.

Jones, whose father, Alvin Jones Sr., passed away in 2021, said his mother is his rock and knows when he needs tough love.

"It's what I need, my mom being hard on me," Jones said. "That was my dad for so many years. My dad's not here, so my mom took the role over without me asking her."

After all, a mother knows best.
